It is fast approaching the end of the summer holidays, and that means the staff at Gleadless Primary School are getting ready to welcome some new starters in Foundation Stage 1 and 2.
Foundation Stage 1 (or F1 for short) is the term used to describe what we may traditionally know to be 'Nursery'.
We aim to make F1 a stimulating, welcoming and safe environment for your children to begin their school life, as they make their first transition from home or day care to a more structured environment.
The teachers have been busy getting everything ready in anticipation for what will probably be an eagerly awaited time. Photos of the learning environment will follow shortly...
We look forward to welcoming your child to a stimulating, nurturing place that aims to encourage the learner within, helping them to discover more about the world around them and launching them into school as independent, confident and happy learners.

Leavers
Hello all, hope that the summer holidays are going well?
Sorry that there have not been many posts recently, I've been on my hols too!
Here are just a few photographs of some of the children leaving our setting to continue their education elsewhere.
All the staff at Gleadless Primary School wish these children every success in the future. They have all been a pleasure to teach and will be badly missed.

Teddy Bears' picnic
We are planning to have a teddy bears' picnic next week as our end of year celebration party. We will be holding 2 separate parties to cater for all the children in Foundation Stage 1 and 2.
The Foundation Stage 2 and a.m. nursery children (including our full timers) will be having their picnic on Wednesday 18th July in the morning.
The p.m. nursery children will be having their picnic on Thursday 19th July in the afternoon.
Your child will need to bring a Teddy Bear with them on the dates above to share the picnic. Please make sure that your child's name is on the Teddy to prevent any losses.
Juice and biscuits will be provided by school. We will decide nearer the time whether the picnic will be indoors or outdoors for obvious reasons!

Big Toddle (completed!)
Well done to all the boys and girls (and parents) in our Foundation Stage that took part in our annual 'Big Toddle'.
Thankfully, the weather stayed fine, despite several clouds threatening...
The children enjoyed the day thoroughly...
It took place on the Frith Road site field.
Some children ran their way around the track!
We simply do not know where they find the energy!
The children got a stamp on a card for every lap completed.
One child completed 17 laps!
Some of our staff looked pretty athletic. Possible olympians??
It was lovely to see that the children made an effort to dress up.
Raising money for charity has never been so much fun! We bet the children sleep well tonight!
If you do have any sponsor forms to return, please feel free to either pass them on to your child's teacher, or directly to the school office.
A big THANK YOU once again to all who supported us today.

Big Toddle (again!)
Well, the weather looks like it will be a little mixed on Wednesday for our Big Toddle...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/s12
Let's keep our fingers crossed that it stays fine!
Quite a few parents have been asking whether it is compulsory to dress in 'super hero' costume. It is perfectly fine if your child wants to wear an alternative costume or, indeed, everyday clothes. Our main aim is that all the children will participate and enjoy an afternoon in the sun(!), exercising and having a good time for charity.
We ask the nursery children and adults to meet us in the nursery yard for 1.30pm prompt, from where we will cross the road together and begin our toddle on the junior field.
Foundation 2 (reception) parents can come along to their child's class for 1.30pm also and from there cross in the same way.
The toddle will last for 1 hour, with the children completing as many laps of the field as they can. Adults will need to accompany their children at all times - so come prepared!
Each child will be given a card to be stamped with every lap completed. Water will be provided, but you may want to bring your own refreshments as well.
We look forward to seeing you on the day!

Big Toddle!
We hope that you are all preparing for our annual 'Big Toddle' next Wednesday?!
The toddle takes place on the junior field on Wednesday afternoon. Nursery is closed in the morning, and we ask that all children attending our nursery come along in the afternoon with their families to take part.
We will meet in the nursery yard before walking across to the field together.
The staff cannot wait to see all the children dressed in their 'Super Hero' costumes (adults, please feel free to also dress up!).
The toddle is in aid of the Barnardos Children's charity and we have raised a significant amount of money in previous years.
See you on Wednesday!
Parent drop-ins
Don't forget to sign up for the Parent Drop-in sessions next week. It will be a great opportunity to discuss how you feel your child has been getting on in Nursery, and what you anticipate in the future.
We very much look forward to your visit!
